High-quality powder coating provides such a transformative finish that the process can seem almost like magic. But the reality is that meticulous work goes into preparing parts and creating ideal conditions for a perfect powder coat.
Many factors can affect the powder coating process, some of which prevent the paint from adhering to the part as well as it should. Fortunately, with All Powder Coat & Screen’s combined in-house powder coating services and machining capabilities—as well as our rigorous commitment to quality—the parts that come out of our shop are beautiful and built to last.
We follow a strict, multi-step powder coating process that ensures excellent results every time. In fact, our diligence is the key reason we’re the go-to shop for customers who have had poor powder coating results in the past.
The importance of meticulous preparation before powder coating cannot be overstated. If any oil or dirt lingers on the surface of your part, the powder coat will not adhere well.
Our fool-proof cleaning process ensures a consistent, long-lasting powder coat every time. Here are the steps we take:
Environmental factors, particularly air quality, can significantly impact powder coating results. We take measures to control workspace humidity, for example, as it can affect the adherence of the coating. We also ensure proper airflow and filtration in our shop to help prevent dust from attaching to the finish prior to curing.
Finally, we equip each finishing booth with an air hose to remove any contaminants that might sneak in at the last minute before the powder is applied.
The surfaces of paint booths and equipment must be kept free of dirt and debris to ensure optimal powder coating services.
For instance, residue on the hanging racks can prevent the powder from adhering properly to the areas where the part contacts the hook or pole. Our process includes removing any buildup that occurs on the poles and hooks where parts hang during powder coating—a task we perform between each job.
In addition, we refresh our powder guns regularly, replacing worn-out parts to ensure even and consistent spraying.
All Powder Coat & Screen team members are rigorously trained to select the best powder gun settings and application methods for a wide range of parts. Our employees understand the nuances of nozzle pressure and spraying distance and how these and other factors affect the quality of the powder coating.
Making an effort to understand a part’s application is another way we ensure customers are thrilled with their results. Asking questions about a part’s end use helps us determine the powder coating type that will enable that part to fulfill its intended purpose for as long as possible.
